The Xiaomi Ice Maker Is the Perfect Gadget to Beat the Heat

Lei Jun’s company isn’t just Redmi Note and foldables, but there are also updates for the brand’s ecosystem, with an eye toward surviving the summer heat.

The new ice maker from Xiaomi promises ready-made ice cubes in just a few minutes, with maximum hygiene and at a very affordable price. It’s a pity that it’s an addition to YouPin’s catalog, the manufacturer’s crowdfunding platform reserved for Chinese users.

The latest Xiaomi accessory debuts with a minimalist design and a compact form factor: featuring a body measuring 290 x 260 x 210 mm and a weight of 6.1 kg, the Mijia Ice Maker is perfect for the kitchen or in a relaxation space at the office, occupying a minimal footprint.

It also runs at 110 W, making it easy to power without too much effort even off the grid (perhaps while camping, using a Power Station). Size and practicality aside, the machine can produce up to 8 ice cubes simultaneously using two settings, Fast and Standard.

As the name suggests, the Fast mode runs in just 6-8 minutes and is handy for immediate use. The Standard setting takes longer, but with a better final result: the cubes remain eight, but they are larger.

According to the company, the device uses a freezing process that reduces impurities and air bubbles. The dense ice takes about 7 minutes to melt into 300 ml of water.

The machine features a 1-liter water reservoir, while the removable basket of 0.75 liters can hold up to 80 cubes. With continuous use over 24 hours, you can produce up to 13 kg of ice.

Finally, Xiaomi has also included a UV light system for sterilization and a 5-minute self-cleaning mode.

As noted at the outset, Xiaomi’s ice maker will only help Chinese users beat the August heat: the device is available in crowdfunding on YouPin, at a launch price of 359 yuan (about €46 at the current exchange rate).

Xiaomi Italy’s catalog includes numerous smart home products and in recent months has even expanded with washing machines and refrigerators. In short, in the future there could also be room for the Mijia Ice Maker, so never say never!
