The Chinese company is famous for its smartphones, tablets and tech gadgets, but over the years its ecosystem has expanded enormously. One of Xiaomi’s strengths is certainly Xiaomi YouPin, the historic crowdfunding platform capable of delivering success after success. The ending we know well: Lei Jun’s company is omnipresent in every aspect of life and recently has even brought its appliances to Italy.
Indeed something is missing or perhaps better to say missing: the brand’s latest novelty is Xiaomi Ice Cream, a playful dessert initiative featuring 3 cones all to be enjoyed. It’s a shame it’s a Chinese exclusive and will likely not reach our latitudes!
During an internal event, the company stunned all employees announcing Xiaomi Ice Cream: no, it’s not the codename of a smartphone but a real ice cream. The 3 versions available echo the Xiaomi 17 family names: you can choose between the Standard, Pro or Max variant, but it’s not the specs that will determine your choice; it’s the craving for sweetness.
The base price of the ice cream is only 5.99 yuan, while the higher-end ones go up to 6.99 and 8.99 yuan: respectively, that’s about €0.75/€0.87/€1.12 at the current exchange rate.
Unfortunately not all Chinese Mi Fans will have the chance to sample the brand’s new delicacy: it’s a limited edition addition to the employees’ canteen menu, developed specifically by the company’s canteen chef Bing Jiabao. So it’s an exclusive for Xiaomi workers and for any visitors, similar to what happened with other dessert initiatives.
Earlier the company introduced yogurt sticks for the employees’ cafeteria, which went viral in the home country: many asked to turn them into a commercial product, but even then it was an exclusive initiative.
