The upcoming OPPO Watch will help burn fat with FatMax

Smartwatches are becoming increasingly precise and useful, both for health monitoring and for fitness and sports modes.

Some users use smartwatches and fitness trackers as “simple” tech watches, but many rely on them to monitor parameters during workouts or for use at a more advanced (and perhaps competitive) level.

Among the upcoming OPPO features is Fat Max: this is a new mode designed to calculate with precision for every user the ideal heart rate for burning fat.

The fat-burning zone is a band of exercise intensity where the body uses fat as its main energy source. It is reached when the heart rate sits between 60% and 70% of its maximum heart rate, a moderate pace.

At this intensity, the body has enough oxygen to convert lipids into energy; however, if the effort becomes too intense, it shifts to burning mainly carbohydrates.

Typically, smartwatches allow monitoring whether the user reaches the fat-burning zone (or Zone 2), but OPPO FatMax can calculate the ideal heart rate for burning fat, based on the user.

Most wearables use a standard formula: 220 minus the user’s age, and then 60% and 70% of this value. It’s very simple, yet it does not take into account individual differences since two people of the same age can have very different fitness levels.

The new OPPO mode offers a more precise calculation by leveraging a proprietary algorithm that analyzes various parameters (height, weight, age, and level of physical activity). The result is a specific fat-burning zone that changes over time, adapting to the user’s physical condition.

Wearing the smartwatch, the system refines its calculation, always returning precise results based on the user’s needs and requirements. During training it is also possible to view in real time the grams of fat burned.

The first device with the FatMax feature will be OPPO Watch S2, the successor of the brand’s ultra-slim wearable (launched in Italy in February). The watch will be launched in September, as confirmed by the company itself, regarding the Chinese market; for Europe we will have to wait, but for now it is not known whether it will arrive within the year or in the first months of 2027.
