Sony Xperia 1 IX: early clues about the flagship, spotted in three versions

In the current tech landscape, talk is mainly about Apple, Samsung and numerous Chinese realities, with Xiaomi leading the pack. Numerous brands that have managed to introduce interesting smartphones (hardware and features) have now begun to fade away, but there are those who endure.

Despite a market presence that isn’t imposing, Sony continues to churn out smartphones packed with goodies for audio enthusiasts. Among the coming novelties, the next Xperia 1 IX: the flagship has been certified and appears in three versions.

Sony Xperia 1 IX certified: will arrive in Europe but date is missing

The device has appeared in the GSMA database, but that doesn’t mean the debut is near. The Japanese manufacturer is usually certifying its smartphones very early, so the debut should take place during 2027.

The identity of the phone is not confirmed, but given the history, it is very likely that it is the future flagship. Sony Xperia 1 IX appears with three different model codes, useful for identifying target markets:

  • XQ-HH44 is destined for Japan and is only in eSIM version;
  • XQ-HH54 is the model for Europe;
  • XQ-HH74 is dedicated to other markets, including China.

Unfortunately, details on specifications, design, and release window are missing. There will almost certainly be a wait, and it’s likely that the debut could occur in the first half of 2027, perhaps precisely in May (release month of Xperia 1 VIII).

This latter has introduced a new look and it is likely that the successor will adopt the same style, with a squared-off camera module – instead of the usual vertical capsule. Clearly we expect a top Snapdragon SoC, a camera of considerable quality, and the usual attention to audio (including a headphone jack).

The big unknown will be the price, given the dizzying rise in production costs due to the memory crisis.

A new mid-range device by the end of the year

Waiting to know more, remember that by the end of 2026 the successor to Xperia 10 VII should debut. Sony’s mid-range is expected around September, but for now very little information has leaked.

Probably the Xperia 10 VIII will continue to have the headphone jack and it isn’t to be ruled out that the design remains unchanged compared to the current model.
