Tecno Camon Slim Inspired by iPhone Air, but Nods to Nothing

The debut of the ultra-slim category was a flop, but that doesn’t mean it has run its course. While Apple and Samsung have chosen to slow down, there are mid- and low-budget manufacturers from a very different tier. The most recent case is Tecno Camon Slim, an economical device characterized by a slim profile and a look that nods to both Cupertino and Nothing, Carl Pei’s minimal brand (former founder of OnePlus).

The new smartphone from Tecno, a Transsion-owned manufacturer specialized in selling in emerging markets, debuts with an aesthetic that blends iPhone Air’s design with Nothing’s Dot Matrix display and its own touch.

The back cover of Tecno Camon Slim houses a horizontal camera module at the center of the chassis, a slim and elongated capsule similar to that of iPhone Air. However, the similarities with the Cupertino model end here: Apple has launched a flagship ultra-slim at 5.64 mm thickness while the Tecno device targets a different tier, staying around 6.39 mm.

The dual camera (compared to the single sensor of the Air model) is characterized by sensors surrounded by two RGB LED rings, but the real highlight is at the center of the module. Here sits the AI Mood Light system, composed of 354 mini LEDs that can be customized with effects and texts — in the Glyph Matrix interface style of Nothing Phone (4a) Pro.

The smartphone features a 6.78″ AMOLED display with a 1.5K resolution and a 144 Hz refresh rate. Performance is entrusted to a Helio G200 Ultimate (6 nm, up to 2.2 GHz) with a liquid cooling system featuring a vapor chamber, while for endurance we have a 5,600 mAh battery with 60W fast charging.

The camera setup includes a Sony LYT-600 50 MP sensor, a secondary lens and a 32 MP selfie camera. There’s also support for underwater photography thanks to the IP68 and IP69 waterproof chassis.

The device ships with 8 GB of RAM and storage options of 128 and 256 GB, with the possibility of expanding up to 2 TB via micro SD. The five colorways are elegant and stylish: New Mondrian features a Mondrian pattern; Prism Black and Jungle Green offer a diamond texture; Van Gogh Blue features brushstroke-inspired effects; Burgundy Red is a warm, deep shade.

For now, Tecno has announced the new Camon Slim via the official Global site but has not yet disclosed availability or price.
