Xiaomi’s new electric screwdriver debuts on YouPin: 18 bits, long battery life, and a bargain price

Xiaomi’s YouPin platform is an inexhaustible source of news for the Chinese brand’s ecosystem—and for the company’s satellite companies. The latest addition is perfect for those looking for an inexpensive and reliable electric screwdriver, designed for DIY and small home repairs: Xiaomi Mijia Electric Straight Handle Screwdriver has debuted in crowdfunding in China and, as is traditional, arrives at a bargain price.

Xiaomi Mijia Electric Straight Handle Screwdriver: the new electric screwdriver with LED light and 18 bits

It had been a while since a Xiaomi Mijia-branded electric screwdriver appeared: the comeback comes with a simple and essential product, but characterized by the brand’s usual minimalist aesthetic. The device is equipped with three adjustable torque levels: the electric mode reaches up to 4 N m, a standard power useful for furniture and small appliances; the screwdriver can also be used as a regular manual screwdriver, in this case with a double manual grip (up to 8 N m).

Autonomy is provided by a 2,000 mAh battery, enough to drive up to 600 screws (as reported by the Chinese brand); charging occurs via a convenient USB-C port.

Among other features, the gadget uses a fully metal epicyclic gear reducer, for better stability and durability under heavy use (avoiding jams). The included case features magnetic slots to store 18 bits (9 long and 9 short).

The top part houses a ring LED light, which surrounds the bit housing: this makes it possible to work in dark environments without visibility issues.

Price and availability

The new Xiaomi Mijia Electric Straight Handle Screwdriver was launched in crowdfunding on YouPin for only 99 yuan, about €12 at the current exchange rate. For now the debut has taken place only in China, so we stay tuned for a potential release in global markets.

In the meantime, remember that Xiaomi has brought several electric screwdrivers to Italy, such as Electric Precision Screwdriver (a small jewel with 24 bits, sold at €49.9 or around €37 on Aliexpress) or the more affordable model with a traditional look and 16 bits (Mi 16-in-1 Ratchet Screwdriver, available at €19.9).
