What will Samsung’s new foldables look like? Here are the first side-by-side dummies

The upcoming July 22, according to leaks in recent weeks, the mobile phone sector is gearing up to welcome the new generation of foldable smartphones signed Samsung.

This year the South Korean company is set to enrich its offering by introducing a novel form factor, designed to sit alongside the traditional models.

Recent rumors, supported by the appearance of non-working units also known as “dummy”, offer a highly detailed look at what the design of the upcoming line will be, highlighting especially the proportions of the buzzworthy Galaxy Z Fold 8 in the “Wide” version.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8, Fold 8 Wide and Flip 8: dummies compared

Images circulating on the platform X from the well-known informant Sonny Dickson allow us to virtually compare the standard Galaxy Z Fold 8, the Galaxy Z Flip 8 and the new Wide variant, revealing clear structural differences at a glance.

nnnn

While the classic Fold 8 will keep lines very similar to previous generations, preserving the look of a traditional elongated smartphone when closed, the Wide version opts for a different geometry.

nnnn

The device appears notably shorter and wider, incorporating an internal screen with an aspect ratio of 4:3 and an external panel whose proportions closely resemble those of the first Google Pixel Fold.

nnnn

Carefully examining the dummy units, the footprint of the Wide model turns out to be surprisingly short in height, to the point of not straying far from the vertical dimensions of the Flip 8. This configuration would enable one-handed use that is extremely more comfortable on the secondary display, addressing a specific consumer demand.

This move by the Asian company does not seem at all casual. Many analysts believe that the choice to launch a smartphone with broader shapes is an act of direct preemption against Apple.

nnnn

There have been rumors for some time that the Cupertino giant is working on its own first iPhone Fold, and Samsung clearly wants to position itself optimally in the market before the arrival of the Californian competitor, offering users a second option for book-style devices.

Arriva la ricarica magnetica?

The dummy shells not only reveal the overall ergonomics of the three smartphones but also highlight interesting details on the rear panel.

nnnn

On the back of the devices you can clearly see the rings that indicate the placement of the hardware components required for wireless charging.

nnnn

If at first this detail had sparked excitement for potential native support of the magnetism technology Qi2, current information outlines a more conservative scenario.

nnnn

Those rings, in fact, are only intended for accessory manufacturers as a reminder of coil placement.
