Un misterioso prodotto Google passa dalla FCC, arriva il Fitbit con schermo?

A new hardware device from Google has recently cleared the FCC certification checks, drawing attention.

The information that emerged from the documents indicates that we are looking at an unprecedented wearable device based on the Wear OS operating system, equipped with an integrated display.

Clues point to a possible evolution of the well-known line of health-focused smartbands, a product capable of uniting the software experience typical of Mountain View’s smartwatches with a compact form factor entirely geared toward sports monitoring.

New Fitbit with a display? An unprecedented Google product passes the FCC

The device, officially classified in bureaucratic paperwork as “wireless device“, has been registered under the code name G8BL6. This nomenclature faithfully follows the typical scheme adopted by Google to identify its own proprietary hardware.

Production has been entrusted to Goertek, a well-established business partner that has been responsible for the manufacture of several generations of Pixel Buds.

The most relevant aspect of the documents concerns the presence of an electronic label, accessible directly from the device by following the path Settings, System and Regulatory Information.

This particular technical detail confirms unambiguously the existence of a screen on board, reproducing exactly the same procedure that users today perform to view the regulatory data on the current Pixel Watch.

The tests conducted during the testing phase required the use of the Android Debug Bridge, commonly known as ADB. This element, associated with the display’s system settings, concretely supports the hypothesis that the product could be powered by Wear OS.

On the connectivity front, the device integrates the Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE), which uses an antenna embedded directly into the metal frame, alongside the GPS support, for standalone position tracking.

However, the complete absence of a Wi-Fi module is noteworthy. This precise combination of specifications suggests the development of an innovative fitness tracker, raising some questions about power management and Wear OS’s ability to guarantee adequate battery life in such a small form factor.

The design spotted this summer and Fitbit’s brand evolution

As early as last August, inside the leaked advertising material dedicated to the Pixel 11 line, a mysterious smart band had been spotted. The few images available showed a vertical pill-shaped display, accompanied by a strap that closely recalled the shapes and materials used on the brand’s watches.

The dial graphics also appeared decidedly familiar, recalling the classic health and fitness interfaces already present on the company’s devices.

Taking all these pieces into account, the unreleased model could position itself on the market as the direct successor to the popular Fitbit Charge series. This particular family of wristbands, which received its last update in 2023, now seems ready to welcome an heir endowed with features significantly superior to what came before.
