Huawei Mate XT 2: the new tri-fold will be more durable and with an extra battery

While internationally the launch of Samsung’s first tri-fold has sparked a stir, in reality the category’s pioneer arrived from Huawei but with a very limited launch. Now the Chinese giant reportedly has the second chapter in the works and here are a few more details on what we can expect: Huawei Mate XT 2 is expected during the year, but it remains to be seen whether this time it will also pop up in our latitudes.

The rumors come from a Chinese insider, with a brief overview containing some details. Regarding the launch, the unveiling of Huawei Mate XT 2 is expected during the month of October, together with the Mate 90 family – so there will still be some time to wait.

Clearly there will be a chipset upgrade that would move from the current Kirin 9010 to the newer version: talk of the Kirin 9030 Pro, already seen on the Mate 80 and Pura X Max. There will also be improvements to the power department, with the jump from 5,600 mAh to as much as 6,000 mAh.

In terms of cameras, the insider talks about features similar to those of Mate X7: we can hypothesize a triple-camera setup of 50 + 40 + 50 MP with RYYB sensors, variable aperture and OIS on the main sensor, an ultra-wide and a macro telephoto lens, all accompanied by a multispectral sensor.

Additionally, Mate XT 2 should support the stylus, a feature absent in the first model but added later with the XTs variant. Finally, Huawei should implement a new hinge system, more durable and able to deliver a less visible crease on the display.

Awaiting official details, let’s note that during this period Huawei has not been idle. The first Mate XT was launched in September 2024, but over the months the Chinese company has also introduced the affordable tri-fold Mate XTs, the folding PC MateBook Fold and, recently, the wide-folding Pura X Max. Let’s say there have been enough “experimental” novelties to keep the wait for the second chapter of the Mate XT family entertained.
