The wait for Apple’s annual developers’ event is about to end. On June 8, on the occasion of the WWDC 2026, the California-based company will unveil to the public the most anticipated software updates, starting with iOS 27 and the new generation of its proprietary voice assistant Siri.
The opening keynote will set the stage for the usual release of the first beta version of the operating system. This will allow the most curious users, willing to accept the risks typical of unfinished software, to preview the improvements to the AI on their devices.
Not all iPhones that received iOS 26 will, however, be fortunate enough to be included in the release.
Every release of a new operating system inevitably brings the end of support for some older devices. Last year, the company discontinued updates for models based on the A12 Bionic processor, namely iPhone XS, XS Max and XR.
According to the information currently available, this year the same fate will befall devices equipped with the A13 Bionic chip. Users owning a second-generation iPhone SE, an iPhone 11, an iPhone 11 Pro, or an iPhone 11 Pro Max will thus find themselves stuck on iOS 26, losing access to the upcoming advanced features of the virtual assistant.
A well-known Weibo informant has published a complete list of the iPhones that, on the contrary, will maintain compatibility with the new software. These will obviously be joined by the future iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max, and the new model iPhone Fold (or Ultra), which will debut on the market in autumn with the system already preinstalled.
Below is the list of supported devices:
For users with a compatible smartphone, the usability advantages in daily usage will be evident. The new Siri will gain the ability to understand what is displayed on the screen in real time. Looking at a specific photo in the gallery, you only need to ask to send it to a specific contact or convert it into a drawing to see the command executed instantly, without having to perform intermediate manual steps.
The interaction will become much more natural by drawing on a deep personal context. The system will analyze data from apps such as Calendar, Mail, Messages, Photos and Notes to answer direct questions.
For example, by reading on the screen the flight information of a relative, the AI could autonomously cross-reference real-time flight tracking with local traffic data, suggesting to the user the exact time to leave home to arrive on time for the arrivals.
To support such complex processing, Apple has reportedly struck a business deal worth $1 billion per year with Google. This collaboration is based on using a customized language model of as many as 1.2 trillion parameters, derived from the Gemini architecture.
This computing power will enable agent-like functions, allowing the system to plan and execute actions in multiple steps.
