Over the past few weeks, the name of a new Samsung pair of earbuds has emerged: within the One UI code references to the mysterious gadget Galaxy Buds Able appeared, a device totally unprecedented until that moment. After some time, a new sighting sheds light on the device’s nature: it will be Samsung’s first open-ear earbuds for the Asian giant, with a wearability in Huawei FreeClip style.
The newly leaked image thanks to Samsung’s software leaves little room for doubt and interpretation: the icon clearly shows an earbud with clip design, a form factor we’ve already seen with Huawei’s iconic series — and is used by brands such as Baseus and Anker Soundcore.
Nevertheless, there are still some doubts about the technology behind the new earbuds. For some time there have been rumors that Samsung is working on a bone-conduction solution; however, the design revealed by One UI seems to lean more toward open-ear technology based on precise bone conduction air conduction (just as with the aforementioned Huawei FreeClip 2).
As for the clip design, it’s not just an aesthetic choice but it also has important functional implications. The earbuds latch onto the outer ear like an earring, leaving the ear canal completely free. In this way the user is not isolated from the surrounding environment and the earbuds can be worn for long periods (given the design ergonomic).
As of now, the Samsung Galaxy Buds Able do not yet have a release date, nor have they been confirmed by the company. The most probable launch window is the summer Unpacked event, alongside the new Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Z Flip 8, with the brand’s first wide-foldable also expected to be announced.
