FaceTime on Pixel 10a? Google confirms, but something doesn’t add up

The wait for the debut of the Pixel 10a is drawing to a close, with the official launch scheduled for next week and pre-orders opening set for the 18 February 2026.

Although the design has been confirmed by official teasers and many specifications are now known, attention has shifted to a peculiar detail that emerged from the Google Store pages just updated.

Among the various promotional features, an explicit mention of FaceTime support appeared, a move that inevitably raised eyebrows and questions about the real nature of this integration.

Will Google support FaceTime on Pixel 10a? Yes, but it isn’t as it seems

The product’s official pages, now online for the regions where the device will be marketed, place strong emphasis on the Pixel 10a’s ability to attract users from the Apple ecosystem.

In a section explicitly dedicated to those considering switching from iPhone to Pixel, Google lists advantages such as the ease of data transfer and messaging, probably referring to the RCS protocol.

However, the sentence that generated the most buzz assures that new Pixel owners will be able to “continue video chatting, even with FaceTime“.

This statement, taken literally, would suggest an unprecedented openness or an innovative technical solution, implying that the barriers between the two operating systems are falling apart.

The reality behind the slogan

Analyzing the situation, it becomes evident that the excitement may be premature. It is highly unlikely that Google has developed a native app or bypassed Apple’s restrictions.

The more logical explanation lies in an existing but often overlooked feature: with the release of iOS 15 in 2021, Apple allowed Android and Windows devices to participate in FaceTime calls via the web browser.

This mode requires an Apple user to generate a link and send it to the interlocutor; it is therefore not possible for an Android user to initiate the conversation on their own.

Consequently, what is presented as a Pixel 10a feature is, in fact, a function accessible for years on any smartphone with a modern browser.

Past precedents and real expectations

This isn’t the first time this communicative ambiguity has surfaced. Online communities, including several Reddit users, had already flagged identical wording in the promotional pages of the Pixel 10 standard months ago.

In that case, the device did not offer any additional functionality beyond the normal Android standard.

The persistence of this message seems thus to address a reassuring need for less-experienced consumers, fearful of losing visual contact with friends and family stuck on iOS.
