Samsung has announced an important milestone for its most recent line of foldable smartphones. Since market launch, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra have recorded in Europe a combined sales increase of 50% compared to the Galaxy Z Fold 7, a record result for the tech giant’s foldable family.
According to Samsung, the series’ success isn’t limited to already loyal users, but also involves a growing number of customers coming from other manufacturers. Specifically, 20% of those who purchased Galaxy Z Flip 8 come from competing devices, often making their first foray into a foldable. This data, according to the company, reflects the appeal of the design choices and features introduced with this generation.
In addition to new users arriving from competitors, Samsung also reports a strong internal movement within its ecosystem: users moving from the Galaxy Z Flip series to Galaxy Z Fold 8 have tripled compared to what happened with the previous generation.
This data is seen by the company as evidence of demand for the different usage experiences offered by the two folding formats, the clamshell and the book.
Samsung’s report also notes a 60% year-over-year increase in the number of iPhone-origin users who have chosen Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra, Galaxy Z Fold 8, or Galaxy Z Flip 8, compared with those who switched from iPhone to the previous generation in the same period after the launch in 2025.
The data is based on Smart Switch, Samsung’s data-transfer service from another smartphone, covering the period from August 7 to September 8, 2026.
Samsung links these results to the maturation of the foldable category, noting that there is no longer a single solution suitable for all users, who assign priority to portability, productivity on a large screen, immersive viewing, creativity, and ease of use.
A variety of needs that, according to the company, the Galaxy Z lineup latest aims to cover as a whole, backed by eight generations of foldable format development.
