Ballie Seems Alive and Well: New Clues from Samsung’s App

In a world built on AI and increasingly smart home devices, it seems there is no room for Samsung Ballie, the small assistant robot of the Asian tech giant. But will that really be the case?

The signs of the cancellation were too numerous to ignore; however, just as we have been flooded with clues about the robot’s end, in recent days a completely different scenario has emerged. Samsung may not have written off the project, and the yellow little gadget looks almost alive and kicking!

Samsung Ballie Could Still Be Alive: Icon Spotted in the Official App

Analyzing the code of one of Samsung’s apps, colleagues at Sammyguru made a discovery (the umpteenth). Among the images, an icon appeared in a style very similar to Ballie’s, with various references to the device in question.

The shape of the tech gadget is unmistakable, and one can draw only one conclusion: Samsung is still at work on its AI-powered assistant robot. Therefore, despite deadlines for the debut not being met (likely due to dissatisfaction with the final product), the project does not seem to be cancelled.

Two clues don’t make a proof?

Toward the end of July another clue emerged: leaked images showing the user interface of the Ballie app. The screens in question seem to come from a certifying body, so it could be software in the approval stage.

There are still doubts, and yet after years of silence, within a couple of weeks two clues related to the domestic robot have surfaced.

A Story That Ends Badly

The story of Samsung’s yellow ball-shaped robot begins at CES 2020: Ballie was spotted several times at the Las Vegas tech fair, up to a version with Gemini support and the debut announcement. The window expected was the summer of 2025, but — as you may have noticed — there is no trace of the ball-shaped assistant.

In February this year the official Ballie page was removed: a quiet cancellation that made people think the project had died. It’s not rare for a brand to experiment with a novelty only to remove it before commercial release, and Samsung is no exception.

Anyway, the clues gathered so far could represent hope: perhaps there is still a future for the AI robot.
