The Google wearable devices lineup officially expands with the long-awaited announcement of the new Pixel Watch 5.
The new generation brings the original project to maturity, introducing a deep, on-device AI integration, paired with diversified dimensional options designed to fit every wrist.
This new iteration preserves the distinctive traits of the previous models, refining readability and manual accessibility and significantly boosting health monitoring capabilities.
From a purely aesthetic standpoint, the company chooses to keep the soft, minimalist lines already familiar to users, offering two different physical formats: a more compact 41 mm version and a 45 mm version.
Regardless of size, all commercially available variants offer high durability, being certified to withstand immersion up to 5 ATM and equipped with IP68 ratings against water and dust intrusion.
The case is made entirely from 100% recycled aluminum, while the top surface is protected by a special Custom 3D Corning Gorilla Glass 5, characterized by a pronounced domed shaping that gives great elegance to the watch face profile.
The available case colors include Obsidian (black), Fog (white-silver) and Olive (dark green) for both variants, alongside Canyon (champagne) finish reserved exclusively for the smaller model.
The panel receives an update, adopting a new Actua 360 display panel with AMOLED LTPO technology. This hardware solution allows the display to dynamically adjust its refresh rate, smoothly ranging from a minimum of 1 Hz to a maximum of 60 Hz depending on ongoing tasks.
Readability in direct sunlight is guaranteed by a peak brightness that reaches 3000 nits. Equally important is the ability to lower this brightness to 1 nit, a crucial feature to keep Always-on active or to check the time at night without straining the eyes.
Under the glass, the Qualcomm Snapdragon W5 Gen 2 Accelerated platform operates, a new variant of the chips already implemented in the previous generation, working in tandem with an ARM Cortex-M55 microcontroller dedicated exclusively to ultra-low-power sensor processing.
The most significant upgrade compared to the Pixel Watch 4 lies in the RAM, which jumps to 3 GB. This memory boost is essential to support the workloads required for running on-device AI models, ensuring high system responsiveness. Internal storage also steps up from 64 GB eMMC.
We find a 332 mAh battery on the 41 mm variant, capable of delivering up to 30 hours of autonomy with the Always-on display active, and a 465 mAh cell on the 45 mm model, pushing endurance to 40 hours with the same setting. Charging relies on the same two-pin magnetic charging system used on the fourth generation.
Completing the hardware are Wi‑Fi 6, Bluetooth 6.0 and a highly precise dual-frequency GPS system. Notably, there is also an Ultra-Wideband (UWB) module and the important integration of emergency satellite communications via non-terrestrial networks when cellular signal is unavailable.
The health monitoring system, in close synergy with Google Health, includes blood-oxygen tracking, a cEDA sensor for stress analysis, and a skin thermometer to detect variations during hours of sleep.
A key safety addition is the exclusive Loss of Pulse Detection algorithm, trained via neural networks to promptly detect a potential absence of pulse or cardiac arrest and autonomously trigger emergency calls.
On board you’ll find Wear OS 7, enriched by the complete and native implementation of the Gemini Intelligence framework.
Google has redesigned the very concept of personalization by introducing the Create My Widget feature, a system that uses AI-interpreted text commands to instantly generate tailored cards and widgets. The same AI-powered system also enables the creation of personalized watch faces.

Google has expanded the number of gestures that can be performed without touching the display. By leveraging these wrist movements and cross-referencing them with the advanced semantic interpretation provided by Gemini’s voice commands, the user can manage and navigate almost the entire software environment without touching the glass.
This is a decisive advance in terms of accessibility and convenience, especially during sports activity or when hands are wet or dirty.
You can pre-order the new smartwatches immediately, while actual availability for direct purchase at physical stores and online retailers is scheduled for 13:00 on August 20.
