There are people who have already tried the iPhone Ultra, and not everything is rosy

The long-awaited debut of Apple in the foldable smartphone sector, currently led by devices such as the foldable smartphones, is set to materialize with the talked-about iPhone Ultra.

Although the device is touted as the most exciting product from the Cupertino-based company in the last ten years, early rumors reveal a complex situation.

Those who had the opportunity to test the device in advance praise the robustness of the folding mechanism and the user interface, but also report significant compromises from a technical standpoint and a particularly elitist selling price, estimated to be over 2,000 euros.

iPhone Ultra, the first impressions are not 100% positive

According to information shared by Mark Gurman in his note newsletter, the initial practical feedback on Apple’s new foldable device is extremely positive regarding usability. The smartphone stands out for notable pocketability and for an interface that closely resembles Apple’s tablets, transforming into an excellent camera viewfinder when needed.

The real ace up its sleeve lies in the special liquid metal hinge. This amorphous alloy, incredibly light and highly resistant, is capable of withstanding strong tensions without yielding, ensuring high elasticity.

The use of this material promises to make the foldable’s structure extremely durable, reassuring users about the typical wear-related issues that afflict this product category.

Once opened, the device assumes dimensions similar to an iPad Mini, offering a different user experience and easier multitasking with a convenient side-by-side arrangement of applications on the screen.

Hardware compromises and uncertainties

Despite the excitement generated by this new form factor, obvious limitations are emerging that are sure to spark debate.

Given the astronomical cost, the photographic equipment will be limited by the lack of a telephoto lens, a serious absence for a top-tier product. Moreover, Apple seems determined to abandon Face ID in favor of the Touch ID fingerprint sensor, a choice that many consumers will inevitably see as a step backward.

On the software side, while enjoying excellent display management, the operating system will remain iOS. This detail means that its capabilities will not reach those of a true iPad when it comes to handling multiple tasks simultaneously. Several analysts believe that these reduced specifications make the epithet “Ultra” undeserved.

Complicating the picture further are ongoing internal issues fueling rumors of possible production delays or an initial launch in limited quantities.

However, the extraordinary strength of the Apple brand and the great anticipation of its devoted audience will almost certainly ensure success, helping to exponentially boost the popularity of foldable smartphones on a global scale.
