Redmi 17C spotted in 5G version: new Xiaomi budget phone on Geekbench

On Geekbench a new budget phone from Xiaomi has surfaced: it would be the upcoming Redmi 17C 5G, with codename tornado and a MediaTek chipset. The first benchmarks reveal an initial portion of the specifications, and yet it could be a device we already know quite well (although it should belong to the brand’s new generation).

As reported by Kacper Skrzypek, a well-known insider specializing in Xiaomi news, the codename tornado has already been associated with some past budget phones. Specifically, it concerns Redmi 15 5G and POCO C85 5G, two twin smartphones; the first was launched in Italy while the POCO model only in India (here it arrived in 4G version).

However the same leaker is not able to reveal the differences between the old devices and the “new” Redmi 17C 5G. Probably we will have a look of a change in appearance and some minor updates (perhaps in the cameras), but it’s just a hypothesis.

The model number 2607FRNEAG has appeared in various databases, so the commercial name would be confirmed. From the benchmarks emerges the presence of a MediaTek chipset with a maximum frequency of 2.4 GHz (almost certainly the Dimensity 6300), 4 GB of RAM and Android 16.

If we take as good the hypothesis of yet another rebrand, the upcoming Redmi 17C 5G should mount a 6.9″ display at 120 Hz and have a 6,000 mAh battery with 33W charging. The camera setup would be based on a 50 MP sensor together with a secondary 2 MP module; on the front, an 8 MP selfie camera.

Recall that in June Redmi 17C 4G was already launched: presented in China, it’s a hybrid rebrand that borrows the design from Redmi 14C for the design and from 15C for most of the specifications.
