Too much Liquid Glass in Xiaomi HyperOS 4? A leak reassures everyone

As the debut of HyperOS 4 approaches, fears are rising: this isn’t an emotion sparked by unofficial images or confirmations, but everything stems from a recent trend. The major Chinese manufacturers are drawing inspiration from Cupertino’s Liquid Glass design, a divisive feature.

The new semi-transparent Apple aesthetic has polarized users between those who appreciate this change and those who deem the interface too heavy and visually bulky. Let’s just say accessibility wasn’t at the forefront at launch, so these are legitimate concerns.

According to a recent leak, it’s likely that these concerns are unfounded: here’s how Xiaomi’s software should change, at least according to the words of a well-known insider.

HyperOS 4 and Liquid Glass: a new leak dampens fears about Cupertino-inspired aesthetics

The usual Digital Chat Station, the Chinese leaker who has proven reliable on several occasions, is speaking. Once again, HyperOS 4’s aesthetics are linked to Cupertino’s Liquid Glass: the upcoming major Xiaomi update will introduce a glass-transparency-inspired style, with effects that will help deliver a more refined and elegant design.

Glass effect, adaptive color selection via artificial intelligence and light plays: these are the three points the insider highlights, but it seems we can breathe a sigh of relief. These changes won’t drastically alter the look of the interface, however the aesthetic details will appear up to 100 times better than the current look.

It appears — according to the leaker’s words — that the final look shouldn’t undergo upheaval, while the new visual effects would help make the experience more refined, polished, and mature.

Anyway, based on what emerged earlier, it seems that the glass effect may be disabled. Additionally, some images related to the system launcher (the ones above) offer a brief preview of how some details will change.

Regarding the release of HyperOS 4, it shouldn’t be long until the announcement: the reveal is expected for July/August in China, so there is nothing left but to wait. Among the novelties of the next version of Xiaomi’s UI there would even be a sort of Privacy Display software, i.e. the screen-dimming system seen on Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra but without the need for a dedicated panel.
