Alongside the new laptop Xiaomi Book Pro 14, Lei Jun’s company has also announced another wearable gem. It is the Xiaomi Watch S5, a watch made with premium materials and characterized by an elegant style, without sacrificing sportwatch features and high-precision health monitoring.
The latest Xiaomi Watch S5 arrives with a circular AMOLED display, a slightly larger panel than the one on Watch S4 – we are talking about 1.48″ against 1.43″. The panel offers a peak brightness of 2,500 nits, for perfect outdoor visibility. Among the novelties we have a capacious battery of 815 mAh, for an autonomy stated up to 21 days.
The device supports over 150 sport modes and offers the classic health monitoring package. However Xiaomi promises a precision of 98.4% for heart rate monitoring, thanks to the implementation of new sensors. Also the GPS is improved while the presence of a speaker and microphone allows to take advantage of the Bluetooth calls, useful in both the base variant and the eSIM.
Compared to the previous Watch 5 (launched in China and in Italy), the new Xiaomi Watch S5 offers some trade-offs – albeit minor – and is priced lower. The watch starts from 1,199 yuan, about 151€ at the current exchange rate, against 1,999 yuan for Watch 5. Still, the device is offered in various versions, also with eSIM, so the final price is variable.
The previous Watch S4 has also been presented in Italy and it is very likely that the new wearable will also find space here. In this way Xiaomi will offer users the choice between Wear OS (with Watch 5) and HyperOS 3 (with Watch S5), a plausible scenario and already seen in the past.
