Your iPhone 17 Pro cases will soon be useless if you switch to the new model

The wait for the new generation of Apple smartphones is becoming increasingly intense as we approach September.

Recent leaks concerning protective cases for the future iPhone 18 Pro lineup have confirmed some of the suppositions that had emerged in the previous weeks.

Anyone hoping to reuse accessories purchased for the previous generation will be disappointed: the size variations will prevent compatibility between the old protections and the new phones.

Although the California-based company is known for maintaining a cohesive aesthetic design for at least two annual cycles, and the next flagship models will indeed retain the proven aluminum unibody chassis with the large rear camera module, there will be an increase in overall thickness.

The images of the cases circulated by the well-known informant MajinBu indicate a slightly bulkier silhouette.

The reason for this slight increase in size lies in the photographic hardware. The company is indeed testing an unprecedented system of 48 MP cameras equipped with variable aperture. Such optical technology requires necessarily more physical space inside the chassis.

This modification will make it impossible to adapt the old covers to the new devices, effectively forcing buyers to also renew their set of protective accessories from day one.

The mystery of the launch timing

A particularly curious element to emerge from these recent leaks concerns the presence of a dedicated case for the base version as well of the new smartphone.

This detail has sparked several questions among industry analysts. Until now, it was believed that Apple had opted for a staggered launch strategy, scheduling the standard model’s release for spring 2027.

The appearance of a protective cover at this stage could indicate a sudden change in corporate plans, or simply be an inaccuracy in the information leaked from the Asian supply chain.

There are currently no confirmed schematics or 3D models for the base version, so we should approach this specific information with extreme caution.
