The Pixel Watch Are Having Sleep Tracking Problems Again

The sleep tracking is one of the most appreciated and widely used features by those who own a next-generation smartwatch.

In the case of wearable devices designed by Google, the constant collection of parameters during sleep hours allows users to precisely analyze the time spent awake, obtain a qualitative score for the night, and, consequently, adjust their habits to promote overall well-being.

The entire usefulness of these sophisticated technological tools risks being nullified when the recorded information is not visible. A recent anomaly is unfortunately making it impossible to consult these metrics for an increasing number of owners.

Google Pixel Watch sleep tracking, the bug reported by the community

In recent hours, the well-known platform Reddit has become the meeting point for several consumers who complain of a persistent service outage lasting for several days now. One user in particular has reported not being able to access sleep statistics by looking at the watch screen.

Although the device is kept firmly on the wrist during the night, upon waking the dial shows an error message, indicating the absence of recent data and ordering the user to wear the accessory to sleep.

The most peculiar aspect of this incident lies in the fact that the sensors for tracking are actually functioning correctly. Biometric data are recorded and synced in the background: it is enough to open the Google Health (ex Fitbit) on your smartphone to find the detailed night analysis.

This detail confirms that the hiccup concerns exclusively the correct display of the data on the watch itself.

Most affected models

As often happens, the initial report acted as a catalyst. In a short time, many other users joined the public discussion, claiming to be affected by the same exact malfunction.

Reviewing the various testimonies shared online, a fairly precise picture emerges: the software bug seems to predominantly affect the second generation of the product, namely the Pixel Watch 2.

This strong concentration of cases on a specific hardware version suggests a potential conflict related to a recent update or to a particular configuration of this specific model.

While consumers hope for a quick solution, it is appropriate to place this outage in the context of the large internal operational movements at Mountain View. Google is currently facing a transition phase rather delicate, preparing to transform the current Fitbit application infrastructure into Google Health.

To make this complex technical migration less problematic, the company has already paused the platform’s social features. Although there are no official confirmations yet, it is entirely plausible to suppose that the countless changes to servers and source code underway behind the scenes have inadvertently generated this new bug, interrupting the flow between the mobile application and the watch screen.
