The official market debut of the new Google Fitbit Air had been set for tomorrow, yet several buyers were pleasantly surprised to find the package delivered several days early
The new fitness tracker, characterized by its complete lack of a display, has in fact physically reached the hands of the very first users over the weekend.
However, the initial enthusiasm quickly collided with an unforeseen snag, leaving a portion of customers with a temporarily unusable accessory.
The first reports of configuration difficulties quickly emerged online. In particular on Reddit, a user described their initial experience explaining that, after removing the product from the packaging, the attempt to pair with the smartphone abruptly terminated.
The system returned an error message indicating the need for an app update, effectively blocking any further interaction. This situation occurred because the software infrastructure required to make the phone communicate with the newly delivered hardware has not yet been rolled out to everyone in a widespread manner.
The reaction from Mountain View’s division did not take long. A member of the product team directly intervened in the public discussion to clarify the sequence of events and apologize for the temporary inconvenience.
The employee confirmed that the early arrival of the packages has, in a sense, surprised their own software release systems. To activate and properly use the fitness tracker it is essential to download the version 5.0 of the new application Google Health.
On the one hand, iOS device owners can already proceed with the update via the Apple App Store; on the other hand, many Android users are stuck in a virtual waiting room.
The Big G team is working to accelerate the Play Store update release to align the software with the early deliveries.
The phased rollout of version 5.0 had actually started a few days ago, reaching some Pixel smartphones successfully, but the progressive nature of the distribution has inevitably generated these disparities. In the coming hours, the situation should fully normalize for any Android device.
In addition to resolving this temporary block, online banter has provided a very interesting detail about future software developments. Responding to buyers’ curiosities, the company has said that Google Health will soon introduce the ability to export vital parameters and workout data captured by the Fitbit Air directly into Apple Health and Apple Fitness.
This synchronization feature will make the product extremely versatile, allowing users to keep their physical data centralized even when bridging across different tech ecosystems.
