Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp are also Plus: how the new subscription works

Meta has officially announced the global rollout of the new paid subscription plans for its main platforms, introducing the versions Instagram Plus, Facebook Plus, and WhatsApp Plus. This initiative is part of a shift toward premium services and AI-based features, grouped under the new brand Meta One.

Despite the introduction of these paid options, the company has confirmed that the standard experience will remain free for all regular users: the new subscriptions are additional tools for customization and engagement, but remain optional.

As for the costs, Instagram Plus and Facebook Plus are offered at a monthly price of about $3.99, while the WhatsApp Plus subscription is set at $2.99 per month. It is important to note that these services do not replace Meta Verified, but coexist with it to offer different types of benefits depending on the user’s needs.

Facebook and Instagram Plus

Here is the list of features common to both platforms:

  • Advanced insights for Stories and counting repeated views.
  • Additional controls for managing the audience of Stories.
  • Unlimited lists for the Stories audience, going beyond the standard “Close Friends” feature.
  • Ability to customize the app icons.
  • Use of custom fonts for the profile bio.
  • Animated reactions dedicated to Stories.
  • Option to add additional pinned content on the profile.
  • Extending the duration of Stories beyond the classic 24-hour limit.
  • Preview of other people’s Stories without appearing officially in the viewers list.
  • Search tool within the list of people who viewed your Stories.
  • Publishing content on the profile or among featured content without it being shown in followers’ feed.
  • Weekly highlighting of Stories to ensure greater visibility of your content.

WhatsApp Plus

For WhatsApp Plus, the focus shifts to customizing the interface and the messaging experience:

  • Introduction of custom themes to change the look of chats.
  • Ability to set custom ringtones for contacts or groups.
  • Extended support for top-pinned chats, with the ability to add up to 20 extra.
  • Access to exclusive premium sticker packs.
  • Advanced options for customizing contact and conversation lists.

The future of the new plans

Beyond these consumer plans, Meta is laying the groundwork for higher-tier subscriptions focused on artificial intelligence and the business world, such as Meta One Plus and Meta One Premium, which will offer higher AI usage limits and advanced capabilities for generating images and videos.

Availability in Italy

As of writing, the new Plus subscriptions are not yet available in Italy or Europe; furthermore, there are no details yet on pricing in euros. Nevertheless, the company has confirmed that the rollout of Plus subscriptions is happening on a global level.

Remember that while the Plus plans are being rolled out, the more advanced variants of the Meta One family dedicated to business and AI will follow a more gradual release path, starting tests in selected markets such as Singapore, Saudi Arabia or Thailand before expanding further.
