Will the Galaxy S27 series have a new design? Perhaps yes, and for a good reason

After a conservative approach lasting for several generations, the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S27 series could undergo a design change. As usual there is no certainty and at the moment we are dealing with a rumor: however behind this change there would not only be the will to introduce novelty at the aesthetic level, but it would be a functional prerequisite for a new addition — something that has been left out for far too long and is already present on Cupertino’s phones.

The Samsung Galaxy S27 lineup could debut with a new look

The image above shows the evolution of the Galaxy S series over the last five years: the camera layout has never changed, even though Samsung has enhanced the style of its top-tier devices, first with a frame unified to the chassis and currently with a capsule-shaped module housing the sensors. The position of the LED flash has never changed, except for millimetric shifts.

In our in-depth piece dedicated to the Galaxy S lineup from its origins to the S23 family we have seen Samsung’s style transformations. As noted on several occasions, the brand adopts a very conservative approach both in terms of style and at the hardware level.

However the upcoming Galaxy S27 could be the flagship for a turning point, with a redesigned look. Unfortunately there are no details on the camera placement, and indeed the same source proceeds with caution: due to recent cost-increase issues, the decision to carry out a complete look redesign could be suspended or delayed.

Nevertheless there are signs of renewal from Samsung, or at least these would be the intentions. The introduction of a new style would not be only aesthetic but also functional: moving the camera module would allow for integrated magnetic charging.

The Galaxy S26 series supports this technology but only via cases with an integrated magnetic ring. In the case of an internal reorganization, Samsung could mount magnets in the chassis, the same feature at the base of Apple’s MagSafe.

Clearly for now this is only a rumor: it remains to be seen how things will evolve in the coming months. Work on the Galaxy S27 series has been underway for some time, and as proof of that we have also had the first sightings on Geekbench.
