By now, the launches of the major Chinese brands are coming one after another without a break: the pace is tight and between one generation and another can pass only a few months. And indeed, we are still dealing with the Italian debut of the Reno 15 lineup, which already looks to the next series. OPPO has published the first official teaser of Reno 16, confirming the release window in China.
At the moment the company hasn’t revealed too much: the series will make its home-market debut in May, six months after the previous generation. Clearly, for now everything is focused on the China release, while internationally we will have to wait.
There are no official details yet, but the Global versions should appear between July and August — at least according to the most recent rumors. Remember that there are usually differences between the Chinese models and those launched in Italy, just as happened with the Reno 15 China series and our Reno 15 family.
Looking at the specifications of the devices arriving in the homeland, based on leaks the OPPO Reno 16 standard would have compact dimensions, with a 6.32-inch diagonal display (flat with ultra-thin bezels). Under the hood, the chipset would be the Dimensity 8500.
The bigger brother would step up a notch with an OLED LTPO 6.78-inch display with a 1.5K resolution, still with flat edges and ultra-thin bezels. In this case the SoC would be the Dimensity 9500s: the two phones use the same processors as the POCO X8 Pro and X8 Pro Max, both launched in Italy last March.
On the battery side there are rumors of a capacious 7,000 mAh unit while the camera setup would include a main sensor of 200 MP, supported by an ultra-wide and a periscope telephoto. Finally there would be various configurations of 12/16 GB of RAM and up to 1 TB of storage, in at least four colors (black, white, purple and green).
There are also updates regarding OPPO Reno 16 Pro Global: as with the previous generation we should deal with a phone that is technically different — presumably the design will be the same.
The international variant would change things compared to the Chinese counterpart, becoming the compact model. The device would boast a 6.32-inch diagonal display similar to the previous Reno 15 Pro Global, while the camera setup would be led by a 200 MP sensor.
Almost certainly we will see the 50 MP ultra-wide and the 50 MP periscope telephoto from the predecessor, so not much should change from a photographic standpoint. The current model ships a 6,200 mAh battery but it seems Reno 16 Pro will have a larger capacity; also a customizable Action button will be introduced.
