The fever surrounding the Max and Pro Max continues to spread, and it’s time to accept that this will be the smartphone nomenclature for the foreseeable future. Among the nouveautés, Xiaomi 17 Max also emerges on the horizon, a device that could represent something more than a simple upgrade: a flagship capable of shining in its own light, merging Battery Phone traits with those of a powerful Camera Phone.
The new rumors about the device arrive from the usual Digital Chat Station: the Xiaomi 17 Max launch is expected by the end of May and for now the debut is discussed only in China. Almost certainly the flagship will remain an exclusive to the country, also because — as a reminder — in that same period a global debut of Xiaomi 17T and 17T Pro is expected.
Returning to the Max variant, one might think of an enhanced version of Xiaomi 17, the smaller one of the current generation. In reality the device hides much more, at least according to leaks so far.
There are rumors, in fact, of an extra-large model in every aspect: the display would be a flat OLED unit of 6.9 inches, with ultra-thin bezels thanks to LTPO technology. There won’t be a rear display, but under the chassis there would be room for a huge battery of 8,000 mAh, with dual charging (wired 100W and wireless 50W).
Besides being a capacious Battery Phone, the device would also carry Camera Phone ambitions: the setup should introduce a Samsung HPE 200 MP sensor, despite the 50 MP main cameras of the 17 series (including Xiaomi 17 Ultra, which offers a 200 MP tele).
Clearly we’re talking about a no-compromise smartphone, equipped with the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5. Below you’ll find a first draft of the tech sheet, based on leaks; the insider adds that Xiaomi 17 Max will be initially available in black and white (so other colors may be added).
