One of the most interesting features of the latest Galaxy S26 Ultra could debut on board of Xiaomi 18 Pro and 18 Pro Max. It has been talked about for some time, but this time the Chinese insider Digital Chat Station offers an additional detail that makes the difference.
The two flagship Xiaomi models are expected to introduce a screen with technology Privacy Display and it seems it won’t be a purely software-side addition, but — just like the Samsung solution — would arise from a combination of dedicated hardware and interface features.
The Privacy Display of the aforementioned Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra works exactly like this: the core of this technology is a dedicated hardware component, together with intelligent software that handles it. Physically, the display is equipped with the Flex Magic Pixel system: it is made up of both standard pixels (for front visibility) and pixels covered by directional filters.
When the Privacy mode is activated, the light emission is adjusted to make the screen appear black when viewed from the side. The software is the brain of the operation and it can activate dimming even on narrow areas of the screen (we’re talking millimetric portions).
With Samsung’s version you can protect specific apps or sensitive points, perhaps the password entry bar. The Korean company is reportedly considering expanding this function to the Galaxy S27 Pro, a new addition for the lineup.
The upcoming Xiaomi 18 Pro and 18 Pro Max would head in this direction: a hardware Privacy Display, with intelligent controls entrusted to HyperOS 4. The insider mentions next-generation 2K displays, while among the other additions there would be a customized 200 MP camera with LOFIC HDR (the same feature as the Xiaomi 17 Ultra).
The launch is slated for September in China, but there is still some uncertainty for the base model. Xiaomi 18 standard could debut at the beginning of 2027 to follow the new Apple calendar, which would see a spring event for the small iPhone 18 (while the two Pro brothers would be announced in the usual period).
