The company Casely has announced the recall of about 429,200 units of its portable chargers known as Power Pods. The decision was formalized in close collaboration with the US Consumer Product Safety Commission, the US agency responsible for protecting consumer safety.
The main reason for this drastic measure lies in a serious manufacturing defect involving the lithium-ion battery integrated inside the device, which is extremely prone to overheating hazards. This anomaly can trigger sudden flames, exposing users to a very high risk of fires and severe burns.
The event surrounding the recalls takes on particularly alarming dimensions, given that this is not the first action taken by the company regarding this product. An initial recall phase had already begun in April 2025, following 51 direct reports from consumers.
In that period, buyers documented numerous incidents where the battery overheated abnormally, swollen and deforming the outer case or catching fire, causing minor burns in at least 6 people. Since then the tally has worsened with the addition of 28 new incidents reported, and the consequences have unfortunately been fatal.
News reports recount a dramatic episode dating back to August 2024, when a 75-year-old woman living in New Jersey was charging her mobile phone with the device resting on her lap. The portable charger caught fire and exploded suddenly, causing the victim deep second- and third-degree burns that subsequently led to death due to complications that arose.
In the face of a danger of such magnitude, it is vital that owners of these accessories verify with utmost urgency the nature of the product they possess. The device directly affected by the recall is the wireless magnetic MagSafe portable charger named Casely Power Pods, featuring a capacity of 5000 mAh.
To confirm you have the defective model, users should carefully inspect the outer shell. On the back of the device the model number E33A is printed, while on the front-right side of the pad there is a clear engraving with the company’s brand.
Anyone recognizing these details on their power bank is invited to stop using it immediately.
Handling a device powered by defective lithium-ion cells requires great care. It is absolutely forbidden to throw these power banks in regular household trash or in traditional roadside recycling containers, as they require specific disposal procedures.
Consumers must contact the local hazardous waste collection center to ensure the facility is able to safely receive these batteries without risking environmental disasters or landfill fires.
This issue frequently affects the electronics industry; for instance, not long ago we wrote about a power bank that underwent a similar recall procedure due to serious design defects.
