Samsung Galaxy S26 with magnetic charging? Maybe, in the meantime there are new accessories

Samsung has recently launched two new wireless chargers, a move that, although at first glance may seem like a simple expansion of the accessory catalog, has been interpreted by many analysts as an unequivocal signal of the company’s future intentions: the integration of native support for the Qi2 magnetic charging standard in the next flagship series, Galaxy S26.

New Samsung accessories hint at magnetic charging on Galaxy S26

To fully understand the importance of this move, it’s necessary to take a step back. The Qi2 standard, developed by the Wireless Power Consortium (WPC), represents the most significant evolution in wireless charging in recent years.

Based on the Magnetic Power Profile, inspired by Apple MagSafe technology, Qi2 introduces a ring of magnets in both the device and the charger.

This system guarantees perfect, automatic alignment between the two, solving one of the long-standing problems of wireless charging: imprecise positioning that could cause slow or intermittent charging. Along with stability, this magnetic alignment optimizes energy efficiency and opens the door to higher charging speeds.

Currently, Samsung’s flagship models, including the recent Galaxy S25 series and the new foldables, technically support the Qi2 standard. However, this support is incomplete. The devices do not have the magnets required for automatic attachment.

Consequently, to take advantage of a Qi2 charger, users are forced to purchase a compatible magnetic case separately. This solution, while functional, represents a compromise that limits accessory choices and adds an extra cost, moving away from the smooth and integrated out-of-the-box experience offered by competitors.

Are the new accessories looking to the future?

In this context, the launch of Samsung’s new accessories takes on a strategic role. The company has introduced two own-branded products, both equipped with Qi2 technology. The first is the Samsung Single Wireless Charger, a compact disc-shaped home charger (58 mm in diameter). It supports wireless fast charging up to 25W if connected to a compatible power adapter (to be purchased separately).

The second, and perhaps more interesting, is the Car Wireless Charger. This car charger, also with full Qi2 support, includes in the box a 12V adapter and a USB-C to USB-C cable. Its distinctive feature is a 360-degree rotating stand, particularly useful for those who use the phone as a GPS navigator.

The logic behind this move is straightforward: why would a company like Samsung invest in developing and marketing its own Qi2 accessories ecosystem if its flagship phones themselves require a third-party component (the case) to use them properly?

The most plausible answer is that Samsung is “laying the groundwork.” The company is building the accessory infrastructure in advance, in order to launch a device that can fully leverage it from day one.

The rumors that have circulated for months suggesting native Qi2 support with the Galaxy S26 thus find a first, solid confirmation. The integration of a magnetic ring directly into the phone’s chassis would eliminate the need for special cases, making the charging experience simpler, cheaper, and more versatile for millions of users.

If this forecast comes true, the Galaxy S26 would not only close a functional gap with the iPhone ecosystem, but could also give a decisive boost to the adoption of the Qi2 standard across the Android world.

For users, including those of other brands, it would mean finally being able to access a vast ecosystem of magnetic accessories – not only chargers, but also wallets, mounts and external batteries – with the guarantee of perfect operation.
