The Chinese company has stepped up its game with a new Battery Phone, taking the category to the next level. This is the first smartphone with “humane” dimensions equipped with a gigantic 11,000 mAh battery, but the news doesn’t end there. Honor X80 Pro Max is also the first smartphone in the world with an ultra-bright display, with a peak brightness of a whopping 10,000 nits!

The new mid-range line from Honor is born with the precise aim of conquering the category with a set of features hard to ignore. The most striking novelty is the 10,000-nit display, an absolute record for the mobile category; however there is a trick and it’s worth keeping in mind.
As seen in an earlier in-depth piece, the value is purely a marketing ploy since reaching this peak occurs exclusively during HDR content playback and a small portion of the panel. What matters is the overall brightness or simply look for the label HBM (High-Brightness Mode): in either case they indicate the maximum brightness for the entire display.
The peak brightness achieved by the Honor X80 Pro Max is admirable but it’s wise not to be blinded by marketing. HDR peak brightness is 10,000 nits while the global brightness reaches up to 2,000 nits, still a value that makes the screen readable under direct sunlight.
As for the other standout feature, the colossal 11,000 mAh battery, there’s little to add. We are dealing with a fourth-generation Qinghai Lake cell, with silicon-carbon technology. Despite the extra-large capacity, the phone’s thickness remains a mere 8.08 mm while weight does not exceed 203 grams.
The device supports 90W charging and 27W reverse charging; thanks to the latter the phone can easily function as a Power Bank. In terms of autonomy, Honor promises up to 42 days in standby and over 26 hours of video playback in streaming (certified by a Guinness World Record).

Moving on to other hardware details, Honor X80 Pro Max sports a 6.8″ AMOLED display with 1.5K resolution, 120 Hz refresh rate and razor-thin bezels of just 1.3 mm. The heart of the device is the Qualcomm Snapdragon 6 Gen 5, while the camera setup relies on a single 50 MP sensor, with CIPA 6.0 optical stabilization.
There’s also an 8 MP selfie camera while the chassis is dust- and water-resistant with an IP69K rating: the phone can be immersed in water and also withstand high-pressure jets. The color options are four: white/orange and red with a faux leather back, or black or white with a glass back cover.
The price starts from a mere 1,999 yuan, about €258 at current exchange rates. For now, the Honor X80 Pro Max remains an exclusive of the Chinese market and it’s unlikely to arrive in a Global version; however the mega batteries of 10,000 mAh and now 11,000 mAh cannot be limited to China forever and sooner or later they will have to show up also in our latitudes (fingers crossed)!
