After the announcement in China, finally the new Note lineup arrives in Global version. We start from the Indian market, but it certainly represents a tasty preview of what awaits us internationally. However Xiaomi has announced only Redmi Note 17 5G and at the moment the Pro big brother is missing from the lineup.
Let’s start right away by tackling the most important question: Redmi Note 17 5G Global is identical to the Chinese model, both in design and specifications. This is an important detail, because it means the device keeps the massive 8,000 mAh battery.
The unit is built with silicon-carbon technology, which helps keep thickness and weight compact (8.4 mm and 225 grams respectively). Redmi promises up to 3 days of battery life with typical use and up to 80% capacity after 1,600 recharge cycles, equal to at least 5 years of life.
The phone is equipped with 45W fast charging, while reverse charging support (22.5W) is useful for using the new Redmi as a Power Bank.
Note 17 5G features an immersive 6.9″ AMOLED display, with a punch-hole for the 8 MP selfie camera (and a slightly thicker chin, typical of budget phones). The panel offers a 120 Hz refresh rate, up to 1,800 nits peak brightness, and is equipped with HydroTouch 2.0 (no touches lost when wet).
The mid-range heart is the Snapdragon 4 Gen 4 while the camera setup is basic, with a 50 MP sensor accompanied by the LED flash. By the way, regarding durability, the phone is IP65-rated against water and dust while the display is protected by a Corning Gorilla Glass 7i.
Redmi Note 17 5G will go on sale in India from August 12, at a starting discounted price of 27,999 rupees – about 254€ at the exchange rate – for the 6/128 GB model. The 8/128 GB version costs 30,999 rupees, or around 281€ at the exchange rate.
As of writing, Xiaomi has announced in Italy Redmi 17 and Redmi 17 5G, but details about the debut of the Note model are still missing. The series will likely appear later, perhaps in September and including the higher-end Note 17 Pro and the unreleased Note 17 Pro Max.
