After the announcement of its first laptop with Privacy Display, the tech giant has also unveiled another quite interesting novelty. This is the 2026 version of Huawei MateBook Fold Ultimate Design, the notebook with a foldable display equipped with a proprietary SoC and HarmonyOS.
The new model preserves the distinctive format with a large flexible display, updating the hardware and introducing new color options.
The main feature of MateBook Fold Ultimate Design 2026 is the 18″ foldable display, a dual-layer OLED panel that uses a ultra-thin UTG glass and achieves a 92% screen-to-body ratio.
When fully opened, the device provides a wide workspace, designed to run multiple windows side by side and use the notebook as a large monitor.
The panel offers a 3.3K resolution, a high brightness (1,600 nits) and an adaptive refresh rate based on LTPO technology. Despite the 18″ foldable screen, the weight is limited to 1.16 kg.
To support the large foldable display, Huawei has developed a new teardrop hinge with dimensions larger than the one seen on the first MateBook Fold.
The mechanism allows using the device in several configurations, including horizontal orientation, vertical and fully open. Some hinge components are made from zirconium-based liquid metal, a solution chosen to make opening and closing smoother and improve structural durability over time.
The rear also includes a stand that helps keep the notebook stable when used in horizontal position.
The distinctive form factor of the MateBook Fold allows using the device in ways different from a traditional laptop.
When partially folded, the lower part of the screen can transform into a virtual keyboard with touchpad. Alternatively, the entire surface can be used to display multiple apps simultaneously through the split-screen mode.
Huawei MateBook Fold Ultimate Design 2026 uses <strong HarmonyOS 6.1, while on the hardware side it marks the debut of the processor Kirin X90 Plus, which replaces the X90 standard used by the previous generation.
Among other features there is an 8 MP front camera, a 74.69 Wh battery with 140W charging support, and a liquid cooling system based on an ultra-thin vapor chamber.
The new Huawei foldable laptop was launched in China with prices starting from around 3,200€ at the current exchange rate. At the moment there are no details on a global release and it is likely that MateBook Fold 2026 will remain a Chinese exclusive (as happened with the previous model).
