Xiaomi presents its first full-color day-and-night camera, with AI and 4K

Xiaomi has launched in China Smart Camera 5 Pro, presented by the company as its first camera capable of offering color vision both day and night. The device relies on a local AI chip of 1.5 TOPS, a dual-lens configuration with video output up to 4K, and a crowdfunding launch price that is decidedly affordable.

The feature that distinguishes the Xiaomi Smart Camera 5 Pro from the rest of the lineup is its ability to maintain a color vision even in low-light conditions, without switching to the usual black-and-white mode typical of most security cameras.

Color night vision is supported by an integrated soft light (useful as supplementary illumination); there are also various dedicated modes such as the one for human presence detection and a mode that eliminates visible red light (so the camera remains completely invisible in the dark, avoiding revealing its position to miscreants or disturbing if placed in a bedroom).

On the optical front, the device adopts a configuration with a main sensor of 8 MP and a secondary sensor of 4 MP, for a video output that reaches up to 4K.

The device includes a local AI chip with a processing power of 1.5 TOPS, which enables recognizing people and pets and detecting sounds (for example, a baby’s cry), all processed directly on the device and not via the cloud.

This approach, in addition to ensuring faster operation, limits the amount of data that leaves the device for analysis purposes.

360° horizontal panning and privacy

For environment coverage, the camera adopts a dual-motor pan-and-tilt system, with a full 360° horizontal rotation and a vertical range of 174°. In terms of connectivity, the Xiaomi Smart Camera 5 Pro supports dual-band Wi‑Fi 6, with a claimed up to 60% faster transmission speed, along with bidirectional voice calls and integration with Mijia Smart Connect.

For storage, the camera supports microSD cards, cloud storage and NAS systems. Among the privacy features is lens masking, which adds to the local processing of AI data already mentioned as an extra guarantee on how information collected by the device is managed.

Crowdfunding price and availability in China

Xiaomi Smart Camera 5 Pro is available in China through a crowdfunding campaign (on YouPin), at a price of 429 yuan, equivalent to about €55 at the current exchange rate. Once the crowdfunding phase ends, the regular list price will rise to 599 yuan, about €77.
