The success of Xiaomi 17 Pro and Pro Max has drawn attention to a technology that is now almost forgotten, namely smartphones with rear display.
OPPO introduced this novelty with the Reno 16 series, but using the Bubble accessory, a small gadget with a touch screen that can be magnetically attached (or carried on you as a keychain), useful for selfies.
However another Chinese brand is reportedly considering adopting this feature natively, and leaks point toward the upcoming Honor 700 and 700 Pro.
The scoop comes from Digital Chat Station, an Asian insider who has proven reliable on several occasions. According to the leaker, a brand is working on slim and light smartphones, with a 1.7-inch rear display, but it would not be a flagship.
Earlier hints also emerged about the Magic 9 lineup, due to arrive in September or October. However, in the flagship line, there are rumors of a magnetic external display — in OPPO Bubble style — with AI-based features.
The current Honor 600 and 600 Pro have already received a magnetic display gadget, but the accessory was introduced exclusively in China. The next generation is expected to introduce a panel directly into the chassis, in a way similar to Xiaomi’s Pro and Pro Max models.
Anyway, there is still a lot of confusion and there is quite a wait until the devices’ release. The launch of Honor 700 and 700 Pro is expected during 2027, probably in April for the Global version and in May in China (following the timeline of the current series).
However, it’s worth noting that there are marked differences between the Honor 600 Western versions and the Chinese ones, especially in terms of design. Therefore it’s not to be ruled out that the native rear display may be reserved only for future China-exclusive models.
