The iPhone freezes with iOS 27, when the bug occurs and how to resolve it

A few days after the public release of the new iOS 27, users have already discovered a software bug capable of temporarily blocking Apple smartphones.

This minor issue, which is rapidly gaining popularity on social networks as a true prank to play on unsuspecting friends, manifests by performing a quick sequence of gestures on the screen.

Despite the situation may seem alarming to those who suddenly find themselves with a device blocked in their hands, it is fortunately a completely reversible problem with no long-term consequences for the data.

A simple forced restart is indeed sufficient to bring the iPhone back to normal operation, while waiting for the company to release a corrective update to resolve it definitively.

iPhone with iOS 27 freezes, why does it happen and how to fix it?

How exactly does this bug manifest? The freeze is activated in a fairly banal way starting from the home screen of a device updated to iOS 27.

The user must swipe down starting from the top-left corner, as if to open the Notification Center. Almost simultaneously, even before the downward animation is fully completed, it is necessary to perform a second swipe from the top-right corner to summon the Control Center.

Once this last screen is closed, the smartphone enters an almost total lock state.

The signs of this lock are evident: the quick launch buttons for the camera and flashlight, usually present on the lock screen, remain stuck at the top of the display. In addition, it becomes physically impossible to swipe between the various pages of the Home screen.

Even if you miraculously manage to open a background application, touch inputs are not registered correctly by the interface elements, making any interaction futile.

The user is thus unable to navigate within the operating system. According to checks performed, the bug is easily reproducible on devices with iOS 27.0 and the same anomalous behavior persists even in the beta version of iOS 27.2 recently released to developers.

How to restore proper functioning?

Since this is simply a software issue, the iPhone hardware suffers no damage.

When the device freezes in this way, the first instinct might be to power it off normally by holding the side button. However, the on-screen swipe usually required to confirm the shutdown will not respond to any command, effectively blocking the standard procedure.

The most effective solution is to perform a forced restart, an essential procedure to keep in mind every time you try to fix malfunctions of a tech device.

This method works at a low level allowing to completely clear the RAM and close the programs causing the conflict.

To force restart a modern iPhone, the key sequence is very precise and does not involve touch. You need to press and release quickly the volume up button, followed immediately by the same action on the volume down button. Finally, you must hold down the power button.

It is crucial not to release this button until the classic Apple logo appears at the center of the black screen, a wait that in some cases could last for more than 10 seconds.

Once the sequence is complete, the operating system will reboot from scratch and the iPhone will be fully operational again, ready for normal daily use.
