Samsung finally uses silicon-carbon cells; how much battery will the Galaxy S27 Pro and Ultra have?

The wait for Samsung’s new generation of high-end smartphones is filled with crucial details, particularly regarding battery life.

The most recent rumors indicate, in fact, that the Galaxy S27 Pro and Galaxy S27 Ultra will benefit from a significant increase in battery capacity, marking a long-awaited step forward for the South Korean company.

This growth is closely linked to the adoption of silicon-carbon anode batteries, a technology that allows more energy to be packed into the same physical space, thus starting to close the technological gap with Chinese manufacturers that have been using it for some time.

The new devices are expected to debut on the market in the first quarter of 2027, also bringing interesting camera-related innovations on the photography front.

Samsung Galaxy S27 Pro and Ultra, silicon-carbon batteries with greater capacity

Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra

After having kept for years a rather conservative approach on the battery module front, Samsung now seems ready to embrace a solution that enables higher capacities without weighing down the design of smartphones.

The main clue of this transition resides precisely in the numbers leaked in recent hours, which confirm the use of silicon-carbon cells. The first signs of an acceleration on this front from Samsung had already been seen last week with the launch of the new foldable smartphones Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Z Fold 8 Ultra, both equipped with larger-capacity cells than their predecessors.

Delving into the details of the data that emerged, the Galaxy S27 Pro is preparing to receive a battery of interesting size, especially considering its relatively compact dimensions. Its battery will have a nominal capacity of 5087 mAh, which will most likely be marketed and promoted with a typical value of 5200 mAh.

The real powerhouse when it comes to battery life will, however, be the Galaxy S27 Ultra. Leaked information indicates for this smartphone a nominal capacity of as much as 5534 mAh, which translates to a advertised typical value of 5700 mAh, with the possibility of approaching even 5800 mAh.

This is a clear improvement over the 5000 mAh powering the current Galaxy S26 Ultra, recording an increase of 14% in the typical capacity alone. At the moment, however, the data relating to the battery life of the standard Galaxy S27 and Galaxy S27 Plus models remain under strict confidentiality.

Fotocamere aggiornate e finestra di lancio

The improvements of the upcoming series will not be limited exclusively to the power component. The previous leaks had already revealed some details about the cameras planned for the Pro and Ultra models.

Both smartphones should indeed boast ultra-wide cameras and a 50 MP telephoto camera. In addition to these, there will be a new 16 MP front camera, which could also integrate a novel square-shaped sensor.

Although fundamental aspects such as the processor and the exact configuration of the main sensors remain to be clarified, anticipation is steadily growing ahead of the official unveiling of the Galaxy S27 family, expected for the first months of 2027.
