The next smartphone from the Chinese company aims to revolutionize the mobile photography sector with an intelligent robotic arm. Initially presented as a concept, Honor Robot Phone has become a reality: a commercially available device for the general public and arriving in the coming weeks.
The time to tally the results is drawing closer and closer: a well-known Chinese insider has revealed what should be the Selling price, and no, it won’t be affordable.
Rumors come from Digital Chat Station: the insider reports that the first Honor smartphone with a robotic gimbal will debut in China at a price above 15,000 yuan. We’re talking about over €1,940 at the current exchange rate, a hefty figure for the Chinese market, sure to rise if it debuts in Europe.
We know that Robot Phone will be unveiled in its homeland soon — the company has already started pre-orders — but we still don’t know whether the launch will be extended to other countries.
Clearly, the reason behind this high price is the same: the crisis caused by memory shortages (due to the massive demand from AI-related sectors) has led to higher production costs. Consequently, all major brands, after an initial phase in which they managed to amortize the extras, have had to raise their final prices.
The main feature of the Honor Robot Phone is its 200 MP PTZ (Pan, Tilt, Zoom) camera: the device integrates a robotic arm equipped with a lens that physically moves thanks to an internal micro-motor and three-axis mechanical stabilization.
The camera physically rotates horizontally (left and right) to cover 360-degree frames, tilts vertically (up and down), and adjusts the focal distance to bring the subject closer or farther without losing details.
The result is a cinematic-grade photography system, also thanks to AI features such as intelligent tracking (which keeps moving subjects in focus). Additionally, Robot Phone is developed in collaboration with ARRI, the German brand specializing in the production of professional cinema equipment.
The device’s debut is just around the corner: recently it has been spotted even at the World Cup (in the hands of a Spanish footballer) while the official debut is expected in August.
The specs will be top-of-the-line, according to the leaks, thanks to the presence of the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5. Among other features are a 6.4-inch display and a large battery of at least 6,000 mAh, 120W fast charging, and a 200 MP periscope telephoto lens (completing the triple camera).
