Acer has unveiled its first smartphone in years, featuring a screen on the back

After a long period almost exclusively devoted to the development of laptops, tablets and gaming devices, the Taiwanese company surprises the sector by announcing Acer Sospiro A15.

This new mid-range device marks an unexpected return to mobile telephony, drawing attention thanks to the presence of a small secondary display placed on the rear chassis.

Acer Sospiro A15 has two screens, everything we know

Recently, the company had strongly focused on other technological sectors, leaving smartphone production aside. The Sospiro A15 announcement ends this absence, proposing a solution that aims to stand out from the monotony.

The device does not aim to compete with the category’s top players, but rather sits in the mid-range offering a very unusual aesthetic and functional peculiarity for its segment.

The distinctive element of the Acer Sospiro A15 is located exactly next to the main camera module. It is a compact 1.88″ display, characterized by a resolution of 240 x 284 pixels. Its small size does not allow, and does not foresee, full navigation of the user interface.

Its purpose is purely practical: the user can use it to quickly view incoming notifications, conveniently manage playback controls or use it as a handy viewfinder when you want to take a selfie using the more capable rear camera.

The front part of the device hosts instead a more traditional IPS-type main display with a diagonal of 6.67″ and a HD resolution.

Essential hardware but MicroSD card and audio jack

Under the chassis, the device adopts specifications aimed at essentiality. The chosen processor is a Unisoc T615, a basic chip that does not offer 5G connectivity, thus limiting browsing to LTE networks. Overall performance is supported by 6 GB of memory RAM and 128 GB of storage space, memory that remains expandable up to 1 TB through the insertion of a classic microSD card.

Battery life is entrusted to a 5,000 mAh battery, compatible with 18 W charging via the USB-C port.

The photographic setup is adequate for the price range, with a 64 MP rear sensor and a 16 MP front. The device also boasts the IP64 certification for dust and water splash resistance, includes a fingerprint reader, runs the Android 16 operating system and retains the ever-appreciated 3.5 mm audio jack.

Currently, the official price of the Sospiro A15 has not been announced and the sale remains limited to Latin American markets, leaving consumers in other regions waiting.
