Xiaomi continues to expand its vast ecosystem by introducing a new product that has been rumored for over a year. Lei Jun’s company has in fact officially announced entry into the network storage market with the launch of its first NAS device, called Xiaomi Smart Storage. Xiaomi Smart Storage presents its first NAS: features, price, and release (so far only in China)
A NAS, short for Network Attached Storage, is an intelligent data storage server connected to the local network. Unlike a traditional external hard drive that connects via USB to a single computer, the NAS allows multiple devices—such as smartphones, tablets and PCs—to access the stored files, create automatic backups, and manage multimedia content.
In practical terms, it’s about having a private personal cloud that guarantees full control over one’s data without having to rely exclusively on third-party subscription services.
The new Xiaomi Smart Storage offers a two-bay design, a choice that makes it highly versatile for both home users seeking space for their media and small offices needing a self-managed backup system.
At the moment, full technical specifications and details of the management software have not yet been disclosed; however, ahead of the crowdfunding campaign opening, price details are already available.
The Beginner version offers 4 TB of capacity (two 2 TB drives) at a promotional price of around €298 at the current exchange rate (2,299 yuan), versus a future list price of 3,499 yuan.
For those needing more space, the Advanced version provides 8 TB total (2 x 4 TB) at a cost of around €376 (2,899 yuan), compared to the final price of 4,499 yuan. Finally, the Professional variant reaches 16 TB of total storage (2 x 8 TB) and is offered at around €609 in crowdfunding (4,699 yuan), while the suggested final price will be 6,999 yuan.
As is often the case with Xiaomi’s novelties, the brand’s first NAS will be launched initially only in China — via YouPin with a crowdfunding campaign scheduled from July 1 to July 8. At the moment there are no official confirmations regarding a possible international release.
