The integration of virtual assistants into daily life is undergoing a remarkable acceleration, moving away from the concept of a simple tool for answering queries toward a continuous support model.
Google is actively working to expand the capabilities of Gemini on mobile devices, making it increasingly context-aware of the context in which the user operates.
At the beginning of the year, the Mountain View company had already introduced features related to personal intelligence, allowing the assistant to draw on widely used services such as email, the photo gallery, the video platform and the search engine to provide more personalized responses.
Now, the intention is to take another step forward through the development of a new feature called “Proactive Assistance“.
The new feature, currently in testing, aims to transform the assistant into a presence capable of suggesting actions and providing relevant information before the user explicitly makes a request.
Analyzing in real time the content displayed on the screen, the incoming notifications and the data from specific authorized applications, the system generates timely and relevant recommendations tailored to the device owner’s habits.
The primary sources of information include the phonebook and the messages, but the system is also able to interface with other applications related to daily productivity, such as the calendar and the email inbox.
This integration allows the software to propose instant reminders, contextual actions or quick insights exactly at the moment they are needed, without forcing the person to search for them manually within the menus.
The functioning of this novelty was brought to light by Android Authority analyzing the code of a recent version of Google’s main mobile device app, specifically the build 17.18.22.sa.arm64.
Although the feature is not yet available to the general public, the user interface found in the code already appears well defined, indicating a decidedly advanced state of development.
A key aspect of this new technical implementation concerns the strict handling of sensitive information. The Proactive Assistance is designed to ensure that all data processing takes place entirely locally, directly on the smartphone.
The information collected is stored in a private and encrypted environment, isolated from any external interference or transmission to remote servers.
Google also reassures users by stating that no personal data will ever be used to train AI models, nor will it be reviewed by human personnel, addressing in a direct and transparent way growing concerns about privacy.
Inside the settings menu, users will have a main switch to enable or disable the entire feature with a single touch, accompanied by a section dedicated to connected applications.
In this way, it will be possible to maintain granular control over which data sources the assistant can consult to generate its own suggestions.
Being information that emerged from the preliminary analysis of a software package in development, release timings remain uncertain and the features could undergo changes before the final release, but the current level of finish suggests an official debut on our smartphones in a relatively short time.
