The Xiaomi 17 series introduced, in addition to the classic Pro model, also the Pro Max version. The two flagship siblings stand out not only for their size and under-the-hood improvements, but especially for the distinctive rear display.
The secondary screen spans the entire rectangular island housing the camera module, and yet Xiaomi 18 Pro will manage to surprise even more. According to the latest news from China, the flagship will have a huge rear screen, and it won’t be the only addition.
According to the latest rumors, Lei Jun’s company has decided to go all-in with the Second Display on its flagship series. The company has already confirmed that this feature will return on the next generation: apparently Chinese users have appreciated it quite a bit.
Anyway the two Pro smartphones are a China-exclusive, so we’ll never know if Western Mi Fans would have liked. Returning to Xiaomi 18 Pro, the new device should move from the current 2.7″ to a huge rear screen, an impressive 4″ diagonal.
Basically it’s a mini display almost identical to the one on the outside of Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7 (4.1″ ). A big screen, in short, but the news doesn’t end here: according to leaks, the screen will have high brightness, a high pixel density, rounded corners and the integrated privacy protection (in the style of Galaxy S26 Ultra).
This last one is still uncertain, but it seems Xiaomi is working on a kind of Privacy Display software: however it’s not to be excluded that two versions could be planned, one that works with dedicated displays and one for all types of panels.
Anyway there’s still some time before the debut: the Xiaomi 18 series is expected in September, so there is a wide window and surely more rumors will come.
Implemented for the first time on the Galaxy S26 Ultra, Samsung’s Privacy Display technology darkens the contents on the screen, but only for the person viewing the smartphone from a side angle. The feature integrated in the display is the result of a hardware-software combination: the panel is equipped with standard pixels (emit light over a wide angle) and directional pixels (project light only toward the front).
Activating the feature, the phone disables the standard pixels (which keep the screen visible from any direction), leaving only the directional ones active. In this way only the user facing the device can clearly see the contents. Those next to you see only a dark screen, just as if it were a protective dark film.
In Xiaomi’s case, there are rumors of a Privacy Display software: however it’s not to be ruled out that two versions could be planned, one that works with dedicated displays and one for all types of panels.
