The Xiaomi 17T Series Lands in China: Should We Be Jealous?

The Xiaomi 17T series debuts in China just a short time after the international unveiling. This marks a first for the T family, previously considered a Global exclusive. Strangely, for the occasion Lei Jun’s company opted for a conservative approach, with no upheavals: usually devices announced at home come with better specs, and consequently one may wonder whether we should be jealous or not of the “new” models available in China.

Xiaomi 17T and 17T Pro Chinese versions: what changes with the new versions, compared to our Global models

The launch of the Xiaomi 17T family, made up of the base model and the bigger Pro brother, represents a turning point for the brand. As confirmed by the company itself, the focus of the T series is on the younger generation: the company’s goal is to offer a flagship of considerable standing, with top-end features and an affordable price.

Normally the brand doesn’t fret too much about launching mid-range flagships, but it’s likely that this year the Xiaomi 17 Max has had a hand in it. Freshly launched in China, although it might suggest an enhanced version of the standard model, this Max actually raises the bar presenting itself as the first flagship from the company with a 200 MP main sensor.

Not a budget device, therefore, but a genuine addition to the series unveiled last September (17, 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max).

After clarifying the positioning of the Xiaomi 17T and 17T Pro in China, let’s take a look at the specs to see that the only change concerns the base model’s battery. Instead of a 6,500 mAh solution, the device released in China arrives with a silicon-carbon 7,000 mAh unit – similar to its Pro brother.

Charging remains at 67W, while the bigger brother rises to 100W and also adds wireless charging support (50W). The rest of the specs do not change, except for the additional 16 GB RAM option, but only for 17T Pro.

Design and hardware follow the Global cousins: the Xiaomi 17T is the more compact model, with an AMOLED display of 6.59″ diagonal; the chipset is the Dimensity 8500 Ultra, while the camera setup includes a triple 50 + 50 + 12 MP (with periscope telephoto lens featuring 5x optical zoom and an ultra-wide).

The higher-end model raises the bar with a 6.83″ display and the SoC Dimensity 9500, the current flagship solution from MediaTek. On the camera side only the main sensor changes, larger (1/1,31″) and with support for 8K video recording. If you want to know more you can check our review: Xiaomi 17T Pro is a device capable of delivering great satisfaction, with a long-lasting battery.

Prices in China start from around €385 at the current exchange rate for the standard version, while starting from around €513 for the Pro at the current rate. Clearly we are dealing with prices far different from Italian ones: we are talking about a very different market and a different currency.
