During the latest edition of the Worldwide Developers Conference, Cupertino unveiled all the software features coming to its devices. At the center of the stage are Siri AI and iOS 27, along with the new macOS update and more.
Clearly Apple has also announced watchOS 27, the latest incarnation of its wearable operating system: now the watch becomes a proactive assistant, deeply aware of the user’s context. Here are all the novelties along with the list of compatible Apple Watches.
The most notable feature is undoubtedly the integration of Siri AI, a version of the voice assistant completely renewed and powered by the latest generation of Apple Intelligence.
Thanks to this new architecture, Siri is no longer limited to executing simple commands, but is able to understand personal context, allowing you to search for specific information such as a door code or flight details directly among saved messages and emails. To facilitate this interaction, a dedicated Siri app debuts that serves as the control center for all conversations, syncing history via iCloud so that the user can resume on the wrist a dialogue started previously on the iPhone.
The user interface of watchOS 27 follows the rest of the ecosystem with the Liquid Glass style, a more refined design focused on clarity and customization.
Daily navigation is facilitated by a new dynamic app grid that prioritizes the icons of the five apps suggested by Siri based on the user’s habits. Additionally, interaction with the Smart Stack becomes even more immediate thanks to a new touch gesture that allows opening widgets without touching the screen.
On the utility and safety front, watchOS 27 introduces a new version of the Find My app, which brings together in a single simplified interface the location features for devices, objects and people.
Health also receives fundamental updates, especially for women’s well-being: the Health app adds support for monitoring perimenopause and menopause within the Cycle Tracking section.
There is a peculiarity for the European market: while Siri AI on iOS and iPadOS will face delays due to the Digital Markets Act regulations, Apple has confirmed that in the European Union it will be possible to access Siri AI on Apple Watch by setting a supported language.
The new features still require newer hardware to run correctly, and they are compatible with Apple Watch Series 10 and later, Watch Ultra 2 and later, and Watch SE 3, provided that they are paired with an iPhone equipped with Apple Intelligence.
Regarding availability, watchOS 27 will be released as a free update in fall. The developer beta has already been released (this applies to wearable software, but also to iOS 27, iPadOS 27, macOS 27, tvOS 27 and visionOS 27). Public beta versions are expected in July.
