Wear OS 7 rollout begins for Pixel Watch: here’s what’s new

Google has begun rolling out Wear OS 7 for compatible Pixel Watch devices. The update goes beyond refining the aesthetics, aiming to make the smartwatch an indispensable tool for tracking the day without constant screen interaction, relying on usage data that now shows many users wearing the device for most of the day.

The new update covers Pixel Watch 2, Watch 3 and Watch 4 (including both Bluetooth/WiFi models and LTE) with the expectation that it will debut natively for the future Pixel Watch 5.

Regarding the Wear OS 7 news, one of the most significant additions is the introduction of Live Updates directly on the wrist, a feature designed to allow following events in progress without the need to open individual apps.

The feature enables real-time monitoring of crucial information such as sports scores, the status of a delivery, or training progress.

The latest Google OS update optimizes the management of the surrounding hardware ecosystem, improving coordination with earbuds, speakers and the new smart glasses expected for next fall.

The user can now seamlessly transfer audio from one device to another with ease, managing playback of content directly from the wrist. A practical example concerns the ability to instantly view on the smartwatch a photo taken with the upcoming audio glasses.

Throughout this year, the platform will be further enriched thanks to the integration of Gemini Intelligence, bringing generative AI to the center of the interface for an even more personalized experience.

This will enable creating custom widgets using natural language (Create My Widget) and managing complex automations, such as booking a workout station at the gym. Thanks to data analysis from services like Gmail and search history, the smartwatch will be able to provide proactive, context-aware suggestions tailored to the user’s specific usage.

On the performance front, Wear OS 7 introduces optimizations that deliver up to a 10% improvement in battery life over the previous version.

The update is being rolled out starting today for eligible Pixel Watches, while advanced AI-related features will be released gradually in the coming months.
