Finally! Google Calendar gains new colors for events

After years of waiting and ingenious temporary solutions by users, Google Calendar has finally decided to expand the color range dedicated to managing events.

Surpassing the previous and restrictive limit of only 11 predefined shades, the famous service today introduces 24 options across all platforms and, most importantly, a full RGB selector dedicated to the web version.

A quick glance at your calendar is often essential for planning the day, provided that the various commitments are easily distinguishable from one another.

For a long time, those who had to manage calendars filled with overlapping appointments had to contend with a rather evident limit: Google Calendar offered only 11 predefined colors for events. This restriction limited organization and made it difficult to recognize activities immediately, causing quite a bit of frustration.

To circumvent the issue, people’s ingenuity gave birth to alternative solutions that were sometimes cumbersome. On web platforms, numerous reports from users forced to create multiple calendars merely to assign a single hue to a single type of event have emerged. Others, tired of seeing their commitments blur into a monochrome block hard to consult quickly, have even ventured into programming custom browser extensions to enrich the visual palette.

Today Google’s Mountain View company welcomes these long-standing and persistent requests, coming from both private users and corporate ones alike. The update introduces as many as 24 base colors usable on all platforms. The real innovation, however, concerns users of the web version or those relying on the service’s APIs of the service, who can now benefit from a complete RGB selector.

Through this tool, in addition to navigating a quick grid containing up to 200 ready-to-use shades, it is possible to enter specific hexadecimal codes, literally unlocking access to millions of colors.

Any shade created on a computer will be retained and perfectly synchronized even when viewed on mobile devices.

The rollout of the new feature is currently underway for everyone using the service, including both personal accounts and those associated with Workspace. Global rollout will be completed in about two weeks.

The option is enabled by default: to start customizing your calendar, simply open the invitation of an event, select the edit option and click on the current color placed next to the title. From here you will be able to choose a new label or tailor one to your needs before saving.

Alternatively, the more hurried can simply right-click on an existing appointment to assign the shade instantly.
