Lei Jun’s company is working on the Privacy Display, a solution similar to the one presented by Samsung. In Xiaomi’s future there will be no more dark protective films, but a panel capable of blocking prying eyes – in a way similar to what’s happening with the display of Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra. The announcement of this feature could be closer than we think!
In the past few days, Xiaomi’s financial results for the first quarter of the year were presented. For the occasion, Lu Weibing (the current brand president) confirmed that the new HyperOS 4 will place artificial intelligence at the core of the experience. Not only that, the executive revealed the UI’s launch window: the announcement is expected to take place around July/August.
Therefore, based on what was reported by Indian insider Yogesh Brar, only a few months remain until the unveiling of the new Xiaomi-branded Privacy Display. The leaker claims that the announcement will take place in conjunction with the event dedicated to HyperOS 4, so it’s not difficult to put the clues together.
We should remember that this feature combines software and hardware, so we can assume that it will not be compatible with older devices from the Chinese company. The most plausible hypothesis is that the feature will find space on board the Xiaomi 18, 18 Pro and 18 Pro Max: most likely the new series will be the first to benefit from the new anti-spy screen.
However there is another line of rumors: according to other insiders, Xiaomi’s Privacy Display feature will be implemented at the software level, so it wouldn’t need a dedicated screen. This rumor raises eyebrows since, in theory, to achieve a truly effective effect, there would be a need for dedicated hardware.
It’s not out of the question that the feature could exist in two versions, one for older models and one – premium – for the next-generation top-of-the-line models.
