Last year the Chinese brand put the Xiaomi MIX Fold series on hold, focusing on a single clamshell foldable. However this year things should go differently, or rather, the opposite: according to the latest rumors from China, Xiaomi MIX Flip 3 would have been cancelled. In fact the entire series would be at risk, as already seen with the fate of the supposed Xiaomi MIX 5.
The flagship of Xiaomi’s experimental line won’t happen: Digital Chat Station says that there will be no MIX 5, and it’s likely that this designation will be abandoned. The more distinctive and unique features will be absorbed by the main series, as already happened with the rear displays of Xiaomi 17 Pro and Pro Max.
The same Chinese insider has also weighed in on the fate of the brand’s next clamshell foldable: Xiaomi MIX Flip 3 would have been canceled and the MIX Flip family is labeled as suspended. Consequently the production of Xiaomi flip phones would be halted, although at the moment there is still no official confirmation.
The company’s plans for 2026 should include a single foldable smartphone, and in this case the MIX name would not appear either. The Xiaomi MIX Fold 5 project would have been shelved, or rather it should arrive under a new name, Xiaomi 17 Fold.
At this point we can hypothesize that Lei Jun’s company intends to completely set aside the MIX family. The more distinctive features and the less classic designs (such as the foldable format) will be part of the regular series; it remains to be seen whether in the future we will have an Xiaomi 17 Flip or 18 Flip, or if the brand intends to completely pause the flip phone category.
