Samsung Galaxy Ring 2 is delayed, but the updates could be worth the wait

The wait for the next smart ring from Samsung is expected to be longer than planned. According to recent rumors from the Asian outlet ETNews, the South Korean giant has decided to postpone the launch of the Galaxy Ring 2.

Initially slated for the second half of 2026, possibly in conjunction with a Galaxy Unpacked event, the wearable device now appears rescheduled for the first months of 2027, if not a later date.

This choice, although it may push enthusiasts’ plans back, hides very precise technical motivations to offer a product decidedly superior to the current generation.

The decision to slow the roadmap down stems from a careful analysis of the smart ring market, a sector that is still trying to consolidate its mass-market audience.

The corporate leadership is carefully evaluating the growth rates of this specific product category, aiming to fit the release of the new wearable within the broader device calendar.

Launching a follow-up hastily would carry the strong risk of presenting a minor update, a strategic mistake for a device that still needs to dispel consumer doubts, especially regarding its list price and its actual usefulness in the long term.

Taking additional time allows the company to better calibrate the commercial impact and refine its offer in a more impactful way.

Battery life and ergonomics at the heart of the project

The postponement translates to a more substantial development period, focused on three fundamental pillars: battery life, overall comfort, and accuracy of the readings.

The flagship model offers up to 7 days of autonomy, a respectable figure but one that engineers intend to push to around 9 or 10 days in the next iteration.

To reach this milestone without compromising wearability, work is underway on a meticulous optimization of the internal component layout. The result will be a ring significantly thinner and lighter, capable of being completely comfortable on the finger even after weeks of continuous use, surpassing the physical limits of the first version.

Sensor updates and charging system

Vital signs form the foundation of any wellness-oriented wearable, and future updates aim to improve the quality of the data collected.

The refinement work is focusing on a markedly improved skin temperature sensor, more accurate sleep-stage analysis, and an expanded range of cardiovascular health statistics.

Although non-invasive glucose monitoring is under internal discussion, the harsh challenges tied to miniaturization, data reliability, and regulatory approvals make this feature a goal for generations further in the future.

The future hardware could leverage a magnetic charging system shared directly with next year’s Galaxy smartphones, drastically simplifying management.

The additional wait therefore seems justified by the promise of a much more mature device, capable of offering concrete features in a finally optimized form.
