Amazon presents Alexa for Shopping: better than Rufus, it’s a true AI assistant

Amazon has announced in the United States Alexa for Shopping, a personalized and agentic AI assistant that promises to radically transform how we search for and buy products. This is not just a simple software update, but the smart fusion between the Rufus experience and the contextual knowledge of Alexa+, creating what the company defines as the best AI shopping assistant currently available.

At present this feature focuses on accessibility: the service is available to all customers in the United States via the Amazon app and website, without the need for a Prime subscription or owning an Echo device.

Regarding the features of Alexa for Shopping, the new assistant is capable of integrating the conversations and preferences expressed by the user across multiple devices to make the shopping experience smooth and coherent.

The assistant remembers past purchases, browsing history, and even dialogues that occurred with Alexa in the home environment, eliminating the need to start every search from scratch.

For example, if a user plans a school project by discussing it with Alexa on their Echo, they can then request in the Amazon app the materials needed based on that specific conversation, receiving targeted suggestions that take the context into account.

The intelligence also extends to technical support and maintenance, as the assistant can provide troubleshooting tips for appliances based on the specific model previously purchased on the site.

In addition to personalization, Alexa for Shopping introduces a range of practical tools aimed at optimizing users’ time and savings. Through the main search bar or a dedicated chat, it is now possible to ask direct questions, create personalized buying guides for complex products like laptops, or generate dynamic comparisons between different models.

Among the most interesting features is the ability to view a product’s price history for up to a full year, allowing you to assess the real value of a deal before checkout.

The AI also enables automating the most tedious processes, such as creating a cart for recurring products or automatically purchasing an item when it reaches the price target set by the user. The system’s versatility extends beyond the Amazon site, allowing users to discover and purchase products from other retailers on the web via the Buy for Me feature.

In conclusion, Alexa for Shopping represents a decisive step toward a future in which artificial intelligence becomes a true personal advisor. For now the assistant is available only in the United States, but it is very likely that it will arrive in other countries as well, just as Rufus did.
