The debut of a new software version is now on par with the launch of a new flagship: expectations are extremely high, and with Xiaomi they are even higher, since the brand owes all of its initial success precisely to to the historic MIUI. Years after the switch to HyperOS, we are almost at the fourth chapter, and now the first rumors hint at what could be the big novelty of the upcoming update.
For now it’s just rumors, but the Chinese insider Smart Pikachu has proven reliable on various occasions. According to the leaker the next version of Xiaomi’s interface will change the design: it does not explicitly mention HyperOS 4, but only the name of Xiaomi’s software.
We still don’t know if this signals a possible change in numbering (as happened with Apple when switching from iOS 18 to iOS 26), but it seems unlikely. Last December Xiaomi itself cited HyperOS 4: it’s not a confirmation, but for now the ongoing work uses this name.
Returning to the recent rumors, according to Smart Pikachu there will be significant changes in the design and the abandonment of the current style in favor of a more elegant visual experience. The interface will be redesigned and the Leica color palette will be integrated; it is not known whether this latest novelty will concern only the camera phones co-engineered with the photographic brand or whether the new style will involve all models.
In the comments — this is a post on the Weibo social network — Chinese users are loudly demanding the implementation of the HyperIsland also on the lock screen. However on this aspect the leaker doesn’t go into detail, limiting himself to replying with an emoticon.
The launch of the new software is scheduled for the end of September together with the Xiaomi 18 series (which currently does not yet have a date). However the official announcement of HyperOS 4 could come earlier, probably as soon as August – as happened with the current HyperOS 3.
As of writing Xiaomi has started the rollout of HyperOS 3.1 in China and globally: this is a mid-update, rich in innovations both in visual terms (with improvements to UI, animations and HyperIsland) and in terms of features (with the arrival of recent apps in iOS-style).
